The Extra Mural Program (EMP)
is a provincial home/community health
care program that provides a comprehensive
range of services to individuals of
all ages in their homes, nursing homes,
special care homes and schools.
Our purpose is to
promote, maintain, and/or restore
health within the context of our clients'
daily lives and, when necessary, to
provide services to support quality
end-of-life care. EMP professionals
assess, plan, provide, and coordinate
care in cooperation with health professsionals
in the region.
Care is delivered
by an interdisciplinary team consisting
of:
• Clinical
Nutritionists
• Nurses
• Occupational Therapists
• Social Workers
• Speech-Language Pathologists
• Physiotherapists
• Respiratory therapists
The mandate for our
approximately 1,000 clients in Region
4 includes acute care, palliative
care, long-term care, long-term oxygen
services and rehabilitative services.
Home care nursing services are provided
on a 24/7 basis through actual nursing
visits.
As an integral part
of the health care system, the Extra
Mural Program is involved in a variety
of partnerships with other government
departments and divisions, health
care institutions and agencies in
order to provide comprehensive services
to clients within their homes/community.
